BEYOND PROGRAMMES TO SYSTEMS
Total Wellbeing is a working space dedicated to research across this broad and often allusive field. The mission is to understand what this subject means, its significance to humans and the planet (the interchangeability as a working hypothesis presented here), to un-pack what wellbeing is not and identify “wellness-washing”, and to develop a more clearer working model of how we can apply wellbeing as a practice in its own right.
All information, frameworks and case studies are researched through RMIT Master of Design Futures, my own independent research incorporating emerging applied sciences and design in neuroaesthetics, somaesthetics (somatic-design), and my existing practices across spatial design and somatic experiencing / embodiment movement methods (read more in About).
As this is a working page—it is open to change, iteration, exploration and professional critique. NR.
FOUR DIMENSIONS
-

ENVIRONMENTAL WELLBEING
Our environments shape our experiences and how we show up and live in the world. They attribute to the natural world, the dwellings that protect us—all influencing our own internal state of being.
-

CULTURAL WELLBEING
Organisational systems shape behaviour and belonging. Values directly translate into operational reality and psychological safety is built into organisational structures. We must work within new paradigms of regeneration over extraction, inclusive design, and care as foundational—not as a moral act.
-

LEADERSHIP WELLBEING
Leadership is self-leadership and it requires presence and embodied practice. There are many leadership models—here we bring leadership back to the wellbeing of the self, extended out to the wellbeing of the organisation.
-

FUTURE WELLBEING
How can we build capacity for what's emerging? Futures research and thinking uses speculative mapping to envision what’s possible. We give agency to the change we must see in the world and create the frameworks for their transition.
A FRAMEWORK FOR SYSTEMIC CHANGE
Integrating the physical environment, organisational culture, leadership capacity, and strategic objectives into coherent systems—where wellbeing enables everything else—creating the very foundations that are sustainable, economically viable, and regenerative for people and planet.
